The 'Magic Mike' Trailer Got Us Thinking...

Yesterday saw the release of the first trailer for Magic Mike, the stripper biopic directed by Stephen Soderbergh and starring and based on the life of Channing Tatum, 2012's most ubiquitous film star (This year's Jessica Chastain, or, more aptly, this year's Jude Law).

It got us thinking. Despite the somewhat cyclical nature of Channing Tatum’s career that this trailer represents, the role really opens him up to a whole new world of opportunities. He can dance, he’s funny, and he can sing. He still lacks some complexity in the more dramatic
portions in his films (he tends to get Efron-esque dead eyes when he tries to sell a serious emotional moments), but there’s hope for improvement. He’s really killing it this year, and we here at Tableau Your Mind have THE perfect next career movie for Channing Tatum:  Movie Musical.

Since he can basically do everything now, why not play Dolly Levi in Hello, Dolly! Really, a movie-musical is a perfect next step for Tatum, and Dolly is a really great part, filled with zingy one-liners and fairly easy-to-capture emotional depth. Plus, it was originally (and most famously) played by Carol Channing, so...

Carol Channing Tatum, Anyone?
Well, well... Hello, Dolly.

We could be wrong, but this just seems like perfection. Kismet.
